Type the number of questions and how many a student got wrong: the score, the letter grade and the full chart update as you type. Works like the classic E-Z Grader® slide chart, on any phone or computer. Not affiliated with The Original E-Z Grader Corp.
How to use the grading calculator
- Enter the number of questions once. The calculator remembers it on this device.
- Type the number wrong for the first paper. The percent and letter appear at once.
- Press Enter for the next paper. The Wrong field stays selected, so you just type the next number.
Keyboard shortcuts in the Wrong field: Enter or Space next paper, +/− or ↑/↓ one more or one fewer wrong, Esc back to 0. On a phone, the large − and + buttons beside the result do the same with one thumb. Switch to Right if you count correct answers, or to Points earned for tests where questions carry different points.
How the score is calculated
Score % = (questions − wrong) ÷ questions × 100
Example: 25 questions, 4 wrong. 25 − 4 = 21 correct, 21 ÷ 25 = 0.84, × 100 = 84%, a B on the standard scale. Extra credit points are added to the number correct, so the score can go above 100%.
Letter grade scale
The default is the 10-point scale below. Schools and districts set their own cut-offs, so check your grading policy and change any cut-off under Settings; the plus-minus and pass-fail scales are there too.

| B | 80 to under 90 |

How rounding works
Scores are rounded half up to the decimals you choose, so 89.5% shows as 90% with no decimals and as 89.5% with one. By default the letter comes from the shown, rounded score: 89.5% becomes 90%, an A. If your school never rounds up, choose Never round up: the score is cut, not rounded, and the letter comes from the exact percent, so 89.5% stays a B. The rule in force is always printed under the result.
Questions teachers ask
How do I calculate a test grade?
Divide the number correct by the total number of questions and multiply by 100. For 20 questions with 3 wrong: 17 ÷ 20 × 100 = 85%. Type 20 and 3 into the calculator above and it shows 85%, a B, and the full chart.
Is 89.5% an A?
It depends on the rounding rule. With "Round to nearest" (the default) 89.5% shows as 90% and earns an A on the standard scale. With "Never round up" it stays below 90 and earns a B. The rule in force is printed under every result.
Can I grade tests where questions are worth different points?
Yes. Switch to "Points earned", enter the total points first and the student's points second. Decimals are allowed, so 43.5 out of 50 gives 87%.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. After your first visit the page is stored on your device and calculates offline. In Chrome or Edge you can install it as an app; on an iPhone use Share, then Add to Home Screen.
Are the grades I enter saved anywhere?
Only on your own device. Your question count and settings stay in your browser so they are there next time. The numbers you type are never sent to us, and there are no accounts.
Can I change the letter grade cut-offs?
Yes. Open Settings, pick Standard, Plus-minus or Pass-fail, and edit any cut-off. Cut-offs must go down from the top grade. Your scale is kept on this device and travels with the share link.
